It says that Kashima Shrine was founded in Gosekashima situated on the lower reaches of Momiya River in 807, requesting a branch of Kashima Shrine in Ichinomiya,Hitachi province. It was transfered to the present place in April 1879.

Formerly four large flags written by Tohko Fujita belonged to this shrine, used to be set up to demonstrate at the spring and autumn festivals by east and west groups, but now kept in local museum.Traditional event of Daisuke doll performance is even now held in the precincts in July 10 in the lunar calendar.

The forest of shrine contains more than 100 years' old pasania and huge cherry trees, designated as preservation of green field by city government.
